POSITION: Director, Writing Center 1994 - 1997

Advised faculty in five academic programs at a newly established upper-level branch campus in matters pertaining to writing curriculum development, writing assessment, interdisciplinary writing, and writing across the curriculum.

Coordinated daily Writing Center operations, which included supervising a staff of ten peer tutors, keeping data and compiling reports on writing center usage, and consulting one-on-one with undergraduate and graduate students on writing projects.

Taught formal writing courses within the Liberal Studies, Education, Nursing, and Business Management programs. Many of these courses I designed and piloted:

  • Interdisciplinary Research and Writing - 3 sections, team-taught and twice linked to a Liberal Studies core course
  • Advanced Composition for Liberal Arts - 2 sections
  • Seminar in Research and Writing for Educators - 1 section, team-taught
  • Managerial Communications - 2 sections
  • Playwriting - 1 section
  • Academic Writing for Nurses - 1 section, linked to a "Cultural Variations in Nursing" course
  • The Writing Center - 3 sections (tutor training course)
Conducted several Independent Studies on such topics as writing the personal essay, ekphrastic poetry, argumentative writing, and special writing center projects.

Conducted campus-wide and course-specific workshops on academic writing concerns.

Co-recipient of $5,000 Educational Technology Grant to develop the school's first online course, UWB Interdisciplinary Research, Reading, and Writing

Nominated for Distinguished Teaching Award, 1996, 1997

Named to Who's Who Among American Educators, 1996

Served on Instructional Support Committee, International Student Committee (ad hoc), Campus Accountability Committee, and Writing Center Director Search Committee
